SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The University of North Dakota track and field teams earned nine spots on the All-Summit League Team, the league offices announced on Friday, with eight Fighting Hawks making the team. The eight Hawks gained all-conference accolades by finishing in the top three in their respective events at the Summit League Outdoor Championships last weekend.
Kenna Curry earned all-conference honors twice, highlighted by her winning the gold medal in the shot put on Friday and destroying the school record in the process with a personal-best throw of 51-9 1/4 (15.78m). She shattered the record of Katelyn Weber, who set it at 50-4 (15.34m) at the 2018 NDSU Tune-Up. With the win, Curry became a two-time all-conference performer at the meet.
Less than 24-hours prior, Curry also medaled in the hammer throw, getting the bronze with a PR mark of 192-2 (58.57m). Her throw not only earned her a spot on the All-Summit League team, but also moved her up to No. 4 in school history.
Luke Labatte was one of the final Fighting Hawks to compete on Friday and did not disappoint, winning the 3,000-meter steeplechase title with a time of 8:49.89. That time broke the conference meet record of 8:56.95, set by Jeffrey Mettler of South Dakota at the 2014 Summit League Outdoor Championships. With the victory, Labatte successfully defended his title, as he also won the 3,000-meter steeplechase crown at the 2022 Summit League Outdoor Championships.
Austin Wolf claimed the high jump crown on Friday evening and tied his personal-best clearance of 7-0 1/4 (2.14m). He was the runner-up at the conference meet in 2022.
Conny Wohlfahrt also gained All-Summit League status on Friday night, finishing as the runner-up in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a PR time of 10:48.23. With that time, Wohlfahrt now has the second-fastest steeplechase time in program history.
Elise Ulseth was the silver medalist on Friday, placing second with a leap of 20-2 1/4 (6.15m). It was the fourth All-Summit League performance of Ulseth's career.
Malene Kollberg was the runner-up in the heptathlon with a PR of 5,103 points. With that point total, Kollberg became just the fourth Fighting Hawk in school history to eclipse the 5,000-point mark in the event and also moved Kollberg up to No. 3 in program history. She piled up five top-three finishes and recorded four personal-bests in the seven events, highlighted by her putting down the No. 3 time in school history in the 100-meter hurdles with a PR time of 14.16 to open the event.
Jesse Middendorf was the final silver medalist of the meet for UND, finishing as the runner-up in the 800 meters on Saturday with a personal-best time of 1:49.05. That time improved his No. 2 mark on the UND top-10 list and was also a three-spot improvement from where he was projected to place coming into the meet.
Aleksa Milanovic also garnered All-Summit League accolades on Saturday, taking third in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:48.93. He finished less than a second away from breaking his own school record. Milanovic was projected to come in fifth before the meet.
Qualifiers for the NCAA West Preliminary Round were determined Thursday with Curry, Labatte, Ulseth, Middendorf, Wolf and
Alec Nelson all earning berths to the meet. The NCAA West Preliminary Round is scheduled for May 24-27 in Sacramento, Calif.
