Labatte, Wolf End Impressive Seasons at NCAA West Preliminary Round

| By:
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Luke Labatte took part in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and Austin Wolf participated in the high jump at the NCAA West Preliminary Round on Friday.

Labatte finished 23rd in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 8:46.02. He remains the only member of the steeple crew in UND history to compete in the event at the NCAA West Preliminary Round, also competing at the meet last season.

The Minnesota native qualified for the meet with his time of 8:41.75 at the Drake Relays earlier this season. That time not only broke his own school record but also held up at the end of the season to get him into the NCAA Regional. Two weeks ago, Labatte won the Summit League title in the steeplechase with a time of 8:49.89, a time that also broke the conference meet record of 8:56.95, set by Jeffrey Mettler of South Dakota at the 2014 Summit League Outdoor Championships.

Earlier Friday evening, Wolf tied for 38th in the high jump with a height of 6-8 1/4 (2.04m). By competing at the meet, Wolf became just the second high jumper in school history to compete at the NCAA Regional, joining Nolan Hovland, who competed at the meet in 2018.

Wolf had a spectacular season, tying the No. 2 jump in program history with a clearance of 7-0 1/4 (2.14m) at the Stanford Invitational midway through the regular season. He also became a Summit League champion with that height two weeks ago at the Summit League Outdoor Championships.

Elise Ulseth will conclude North Dakota's track and field season, competing in the heptathlon at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Austin, Texas, on June 9-10.
