GRAND FORKS, N.D. - University of North Dakota head women's basketball coach
Mallory Bernhard announced the addition of Burnsville, Minn., native
Destinee Oberg to the program for her final year of eligibility.
Oberg spent last season at Minnesota after beginning her collegiate career at Arkansas. In her lone campaign with the Golden Gophers, Oberg averaged 1.8 points and 2.1 rebounds per game while appearing in 25 contests. She posted a near double-double in the win over Presbyterian, matching her season high with eight points while grabbing 10 boards in 20 minutes of play.
"To add a player of Destinee's caliber is of course exciting," said Bernhard. "She is someone we recruited back as a high schooler and unfortunately chose a good SEC school as she was the No. 6 post player and No. 38 prospect in the nation. Talent is one thing but as we got to know the word about Destinee over these past few years the thing that was always brought up is how great of a teammate she is and the kind of leader she can be. I am excited for what she will do on the court as she is as healthy as she has ever been, but the leadership and experiences she has had will be tremendous for our team. It's been a long time coming but we are excited to bring Destinee back to some of her family and North Dakota roots."
The former Academy of Holy Angels standout saw action in 39 games over three seasons for Arkansas, where she reached double figures in scoring twice during her junior year and helped the Razorbacks reach the NCAA Tournament in 2020-21 and 2021-22.
Oberg is the second transfer to join the Fighting Hawks squad for the 2023-24 season.
