GRAND FORKS, N.D. – North Dakota soccer dropped a 2-1 decision to in-state rival North Dakota State on Sunday afternoon from Bronson Field as a pair of Bison goals in the early going of each half proved the difference in the physical and chippy Summit League affair. The loss is the first for UND in league play and moves Chris Logan's squad's record to 4-5-4 overall and 0-1-2 in the Summit. NDSU improves to 6-4-3 overall with a 2-0-1 mark in league action.
The Bison wasted no time opening scoring on Sunday as NDSU's Gabrielle Garrett attacked top right of goal and found netting off of a helper from Hannah Arnold 54 seconds into the contest. The answer belonged to the Hawks and sophomore Milan Cordone scored bottom right of goal in the eighth minute to even the action in the first half.
NDSU retook the lead in the 52nd minute as Morgan Russmann scored unassisted top left of goal. UND attempted three shots in the second half prior to the 75th minute but would be unable to get an attempt off in the final 15 of the defeat.
UND heads to Nebraska to take on Omaha on October 10 as Summit League play continues. The action can be viewed on the Summit League Network and live stats will be available at FightingHawks.com.
