FARGO, N.D. –
Kacie Borowicz poured in a career-high 40 points, but the North Dakota women's basketball team fell 107-80 to North Dakota State Saturday in the Scheels Center.
Borowicz's scoring output increased in all four quarters and she was efficient from all three levels of the floor converting 16-of-26 field goal attempts and 3-of-5 from deep. Borowicz tallied 13 of UND's 17 points in the fourth quarter on 4-of-5 shooting.
The Fighting Hawks scored the first points of the game on a
Kiyah Hurst basket, but the Bison would use a pair of 7-0 runs in the quarter to build a 16-point lead after 10 minutes. Hurst scored six of the first eight points for UND on 3-of-4 shooting in the first five minutes. Borowicz and Hurst scored 16 of UND's 18 first quarter points, with
Fatima Ibrahim recording the other bucket.
While North Dakota shot .545 percent from the field in the first half, the Bison finished the first 20 minutes with a .633 shooting percentage and went 8-for-12 from beyond the arc. Borowicz's scoring outburst carried into the second period, as she poured in 10 more points to bring her first half total to 18 on an efficient 8-of-12 shooting.
Kiera Pemberton and Ibrahim added eight and seven points, respectively, as UND outscored the Bison 25-22 in the frame but trailed 56-43 at half.
UND cut the Bison lead to 10 four times in the third quarter, led by 10 points from Borowicz and six from Ibrahim, but NDSU closed the quarter with a 13-3 run to take an 83-63 advantage into the final period. NoDak knocked down its first two treys in the third quarter, both from Borowicz, but the Bison matched with two triples of their own.
North Dakota State expanded its lead to the largest of the game, 97-68, with 4:14 left in the fourth quarter. Five of NDSU's seven field goals in the fourth were from beyond the arc, as they outscored UND 24-17 to close out its 107-80 win.
The Fighting Hawks will travel to Brookings, S.D. next Thursday for a meeting with South Dakota State at 7:00 p.m.
