Women’s basketball adds Fletcher, Mathern to 2024-25 recruiting class

| By:
GRAND FORKS, N.D. – University of North Dakota head women's basketball coach Mallory Bernhard has announced the signings of Anaiyah Fletcher and Maetaya Mathern to the 2023-24 roster.

"We are excited about the addition of Anaiyah and Mataeya to our 2024 class. They offer a great compliment to our early signees - we've added size to this class with Mataeya being a longer versatile wing, and Anaiyah being a long and athletic forward," said Bernhard. "Mataeya has shown the ability to score, pass, and defend while Anaiyah is an elite rebounder. They both play with great effort and intensity and off the court they are high character women and excellent students. In Mataeya we certainly are thrilled to add another of the state's best players to the state's flagship university and Anaiyah continues our strong Canadian presence."

"I am thrilled that Anaiyah has chosen North Dakota to continue her basketball career. Coach Motherwell has long recruited Canada and is one of the most liked, respected, and trusted NCAA coaches in the country. I am very comfortable with her coming to play for coach Mo, coach Bernhard, and their program. They are getting a super player and person in Anaiyah. She is an outstanding student and comes from a wonderful family.  On the court, she has a relentless motor, is a fierce competitor, and an outstanding athlete. As productive as she has been, her best basketball is ahead of her and she is poised to have a bright career at North Dakota." - Yaw Afful, Director, A-Game Basketball

What they are saying about Mataeya:
"Mataeya is a strong and versatile player who possesses an outstanding work ethic and focus that will allow her to keep growing her game at UND. Mataeya's ceiling is very high. At six feet, she is able to play both on the perimeter and down low with her strength and has a strong ability to finish through contact. She works extremely hard on both ends of the floor and takes pride on the defensive end. Her ability to stretch the floor allows her to be utilized in a variety of positions both offensively and defensively. Mataeya's strong work ethic and commitment to improving will translate well at the next level. I am excited to see Mataeya grow her game within the UND program and believe her best days are ahead of her." - Jill Vote, ND Attack AAU Girls Program Director
