ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Seven North Dakota football players highlighted the 2023 Missouri Valley Football Conference Honor Roll by earning the President's Council Academic Excellence Award, the conference office announced Thursday. The seven Fighting Hawks gaining the accolade were Ethan Ball, Max Gunderson, Easton Kilty, Colin Lavell, Jaden Norby, Luke Skokna and Jack Wright. Those seven were among the 50 in the MVFC named to the league's highest academic achievement.

The President's Council Academic Excellence Award requires a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 (through the Fall 2023 semester) and participation in athletics for a minimum of two years. The student-athlete must also be scheduled to graduate by the end of the summer of 2024.

North Dakota also had 42 of the 318 total student-athletes receiving the league's Commissioner's Excellence Award, which requires a minimum GPA of 3.2 for the previous two semesters (freshmen are not eligible).
In addition, the MVFC announced its 2023-24 Honor Roll, which recognizes academic achievement of student-athletes. To qualify for the Honor Roll, a student-athlete must have recorded a minimum GPA of 3.0 (Fall 2023), must have been a member of the football team, and must have been enrolled full time during the fall. More than 700 student-athletes in the conference earned Honor Roll recognition, including 83 Fighting Hawks.
