NoDak closes out unbeaten weekend with 1-1 draw at Oakland

ROCHESTER, Mich. – The University of North Dakota soccer team closed out a strong opening weekend of competition on Monday afternoon, playing to a 1-1 draw against Oakland from Oakland Soccer Field in Rochester, Mich.

The contest, which was moved from Sunday's original date to Monday due to weather, saw the Fighting Hawks (0-0-2) complete an unbeaten first weekend of the season for the fifth time in eight seasons under Head Coach Chris Logan with a pair of 1-1 draws.

It was a hot start for the green and white, with Milan Cordone getting the visitors on the board in early fashion. The sophomore struck just 1:48 into the contest on her first goal of the season and second of her career to give the Hawks an early 1-0 lead. The tally nearly cracked the record books, coming just 15 seconds shy of the top-5 fastest goals to begin a game in program history.

Midway through the opening stanza, Oakland (0-1-1) leveled the score on a tally from Frankie Mudd, but neither side could find the go-ahead breakthrough in the final 65 minutes.

Freshman goalkeeper Grace Miller was solid once again in her second game of her collegiate career, stopping four shots to improve to 0-0-2.

North Dakota will open the home portion of the regular season on Wednesday afternoon against Minnesota Crookston at 3 p.m. from Bronson Field. The contest will air on The Summit League Network through Midco Sports Plus.
