CHENEY, Wash. – The University of North Dakota men's tennis team opened up the 2025 regular season with a 6-1 victory over Eastern Washington on Friday morning from Cheney, Wash.
UND (1-0) grabbed its second win in program history over Eastern Washington (0-1) in eight tries, including back-to-back victories, while also opening the season with a triumph for the second time in four years under Head Coach
Tom Boysen.
The top doubles pairing of
Ange-Kevin Koua and
Leandro Zgraggen opened up the year with the first victory of the season, notching a 6-3 triumph on the No. 1 court before the all-freshman duo of
Leo Galliano and
Andrew Hayduke II secured the 1-0 lead for the visitors by a 7-5 score at the bottom spot.
Galliano increased the lead to 2-0 to open singles play, notching his first as a collegian in one v. one action with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph on the No. 3 court, but EWU responded at the fourth spot to trim the advantage to 2-1.
That was as close as the Eagles would get, however, as a 6-3, 6-4 victory from Koua pushed the lead to 3-1 before Zgraggen clinched the match victory for the Hawks by a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 win at the No. 1 position.
Jayho Hong increased the advantage to 5-1 at the bottom spot with a 6-3, 6-2 win and Hayduke II capped off the 6-1 victory by a 6-1, 7-5 score on the No. 5 court.
