SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – After strong performances at the Jim Emmerich Alumni Meet on Saturday, North Dakota earned three of the four Kwik Star Summit League Peak Performer of the Week honors, the league offices announced on Tuesday.
Ethan Thomas was named the Summit League Men's Field Peak Performer of the Week and destroyed a school record that stood for nearly four decades. Thomas shattered the school record in the shot put with a throw of 59-6 1/4 (18.14m) in Brookings. He broke the record of Dave Levos, who held the record since 1986 after setting it at 59-1 1/2 (18.02m) in Fargo that season. Thomas currently ranks No. 46 in the NCAA in the shot put and leads the Summit League. He was also sixth in the weight throw on Saturday with a toss of 56-4 3/4 (17.19m).
Jadyn Keeler earned the title of Summit League Women's Track Peak Performer of the Week and also broke a school record at South Dakota State. Keeler won the 3,000-meter crown and shattered the school record with a time of 9:17.58. She broke the program record of
Yonca Kutluk, who set it at 9:22.35 in Seattle last season. Keeler's time ranks No. 38 in the NCAA and leads the Summit League.
Kenna Curry also garnered a weekly award and was named the Summit League Co-Women's Field Peak Performer of the Week. Curry had a pair of top-two finishes in Brookings, winning the title in the weight throw (71-3 1/4, 21.72m) and was the runner-up in the shot put (47-11 1/4, 14.61m). She shared the weekly award with Anna Willis of South Dakota, who won the pole vault with a height of 14-4 3/4 (4.39m) at the Mark Colligan Memorial in Lincoln last weekend.
The Fighting Hawks will host the UND Open inside the Pollard Athletic Center this Friday and Saturday. The opening events of the pentathlon and heptathlon will commence the meet at 3 p.m. on Friday, while the men's and women's discus will also take place that evening and begin at 5 p.m.
