Fighting Hawks Fall in 2-1 Battle Against Kansas City

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The University of North Dakota soccer team dropped a 2-1 crucial conference contest to Kansas City on Sunday afternoon at Bronson Field.
 
UND now sits with a 1-4-2 record in league play with five points and—with one final game in Summit League action—are still on the hunt for the final spot in the conference postseason that features the top six teams in quarterfinal competition.
 
Kansas City struck first in the Sunday affair, taking the 1-0 lead after a goal in the 24th minute. The Fighting Hawks fired back in the final few minutes of the first half, as Cora Ellermann found the back of the net for her fifth goal of the season, officially tying things up at 1-1. But the Roos took back control in the 81st minute, netting a shot for the 2-1 advantage.
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Grace Miller—the current Summit League Defensive Peak Performer of the Week—totaled three saves on five shots against in the effort while Ellermann logged the lone goal. 
 
North Dakota now turns its sights to the regular season finale on the road against St. Thomas, which is set for 1 p.m. at St. Paul, Minn.
