NoDak wins again, takes down NDSU in dual

| By:
GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The University of North Dakota men's golf team continued its winning ways on Thursday, taking down North Dakota State in dual action.

The two-day, 36-hole event began on Wednesday in Fargo at the Fargo Country Club before moving to Grand Forks on Thursday at the Grand Forks Country Club for the final 18 holes. The day marked the first home golf event for UND in the Division I era.

"It was a special day on the course today," said UND head men's golf coach Todd Schaefer. "We not only got great rounds of golf in, but to be able to do this in Grand Forks against our in-state rival is really special and a great experience for our players. Super appreciative to everyone for making this happen."

After both teams fired a 298 (+10) down in Fargo on Wednesday to send the match up I-29 deadlocked, the two sides went back-and-forth over the final 18 holes to setup a dramatic finish on a beautiful afternoon in Grand Forks.

UND found itself trailing by seven strokes with just a few holes remaining, but the Fighting Hawk foursome sank nine birdies over the final four holes to complete the comeback and grab a victory over NDSU for the second straight event.

NoDak finished with a 36-hole score of 575 (-1) to finish with a five shot victory over the Bison (580, +4). The final round score of 277 (-11) finishes just one shot away from matching the program's all-time record for lowest 18-hole score, which was set at the 2023-24 Summit League Championships.

On the individual side, Nathan Peyerl led the way for the Hawks and just missed a new career-low over 18 holes with a 67 (-5) on Thursday to surge up to second with a 143 (-1). The junior sank an Eagle on his second hole of the day before closing out the event with four birdies over his last six holes.

Landon Miller also climbed up the leaderboard on the second day, finishing third with a 144 (E) to tie with teammate Kagan Kollar, who was playing as an individual. Joseph Kortan sat right behind his teammates and placed in a tie for sixth with a 145 (+1). The Moorhead, Minn., native sank a big birdie on 17 to help put the Hawks in front and closed out the day with a 70 (-2).

Carson Skarperud and Carver Larson rounded out the lineup for UND, with the duo finishing eighth and tied for ninth with a 146 (+2) and 147 (+3), respectively. Tucker D'Alliard (148, +4) and Thomas Meader (165, +21) also competed as individuals and finished 11th and 16th, respectively.

North Dakota will return to action at the end of October at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate beginning on Sunday, Oct. 26 from Powells Point, N.C.
