GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The North Dakota men's basketball team concludes a four-game homestand, set to take on the Winthrop Eagles on Thursday night at 7 p.m. from Betty Engelstad Sioux Center.
It is the first ever matchup between North Dakota and Winthrop, being UND's first matchup against a Big South school since the Hawks took on Campbell when they were still in the Big South on Dec. 1, 2019.
UND is coming off a 69-66 loss in overtime to Western Illinois on Saturday, the first North Dakota overtime game since Nov. 25, 2023, against New Orleans.
Scouting the Opposition
Winthrop enters this matchup with a 7-5 record after defeating Bob Jones on Saturday by a score of 101-55.
The Eagles have scored 90 or more points in six different games, averaging 89.1 points per contest this season, good for 23rd in the country. Winthrop has four players averaging 10 or more points, led by big man, Logan Duncomb, who is averaging team highs in points (15.5) and rebounds (6.8) per game.
5-9 guard Kareem Rozier has been a flame thrower for the Eagles, shooting 40.6% from deep, connecting on 39-of-96 attempts this season (11th nationally in three-pointers made). He hit seven three-pointers against Arkansas on Nov. 18.
Hawks are Right There
UND owns a 2-4 record at home this season, with those four losses coming by a combined 19 points. In all four losses, UND has been within one possession in the final 2:00 of the game. The Hawks lost to UC Riverside by four, CSUN by eight, Montana by four and Western Illinois by three.
It was a Block Party at the Betty
North Dakota recorded 10 blocks on Saturday against Western Illinois, the most in a game since Dec. 13, 2012, against Presentation.
Eli King (4) and
Josh Jones (3) each recorded career highs in blocks, as the Hawks are averaging 8.0 blocks as a team over their last two games.
Greyson Getting to the Stripe
Greyson Uelmen ranks fifth in the Summit League in free throws made (53) and free throws attempted (66) this season. He has attempted six or more free throws in four different games this season, featured by 12 against Hawai'i on Nov. 28.
Crash the Glass
North Dakota gave up 25 offensive rebounds to Western Illinois on Saturday, the most the team has given up this season. Winthrop is tied for 29th in the country in offensive rebounds per game, averaging 14.25 per contest. UND has won the offensive rebounding battle in 6-of-13 games this season and is allowing 10.2 offensive rebounds per game.
