UND on the International Stage: Dec. 27, 2025

| By:
GRAND FORKS, N.D. – It was another full day of international play on Saturday, as all three teams featuring current and future Fighting Hawks were in action in Switzerland and the Twin Cities.

The highlight of the day came in Davos, Switzerland, as defensemen Jake Livanavage and Abram Wiebe helped the U.S. Collegiate Selects earn a historic win over HC Davos at the Spengler Cup. USCS held HC Davos, who entered the tournament as the best team in Switzerland's top professional division, without a lead and has a chance to win its group following the victory.

SPENGLER CUP: U.S. Collegiate Selects 5, HC Davos 3
Livanavage and Wiebe helped the U.S. Collegiate Selects earn a historic result on Saturday, notching the team's first victory at the Spengler Cup over the host-HC Davos by a 5-3 score.

The defensive duo was impactful on both ends of the ice, as the pairing combined for a plus-1 rating and both logged over 16 minutes of ice time. Wiebe made a great play along to wall to hold a puck in the zone that led to the first goal of the game for the USCS before Livanavage flipped a puck into space to start an eventual tic-tac-toe tally to make it 4-2 in the third period.

USCS will now enjoy a day off and will find out its group placement following the HC Davos and Canada game on Sunday. The squad is guaranteed at least one more game in either the quarterfinal or semifinal round.

WORLD JUNIORS: Canada 2, Latvia 1 (OT)
After a barnburner in the tournament opener, Canada had to hold off a late equalizer and grab an overtime win over Latvia, 2-1, from 3M Arena in Minneapolis.

Cole Reschny was a focal point in the victory for the Canadians, as the forward moved back to his natural center position and potted a goal. The Macklin, Saskatchewan, native cut to the middle and rifled home a power play goal to give Canada a 1-0 lead in the second period. He also won a crucial draw that led to the overtime game winner on the man advantage to give him a 66.7 percent night in the dot and lead all Canadian skaters with eight wins.

Ethan MacKenzie played over 15 minutes on defense to sit fourth among Canadian blueliners.

Canada will return to action on Dec. 29 against Denmark.

WORLD JUNIORS: United States 2, Switzerland 1
Will Zellers once again made an impact for Team USA, scoring the eventual game-winning goal to help the Americans sneak by Switzerland, 2-1, in the nightcap at Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul.

The forward broke a 1-1 deadlock in the second period when he fired a shot from nearly the goal line that snuck over the goaltender's shoulder to give USA a 2-1 lead and notch his third goal of the tournament in just two games.

Defenseman EJ Emery made his tournament debut, logging just under eight minutes of action in the win, while Caleb Heil served as the backup netminder.

Team USA will look to continue its perfect start on Dec. 29 against Slovakia.
