SPENGLER CUP: U.S. Collegiate Selects 5, HC Sparta Prague 3
The kids just keep on winning, as the USCS built an early 2-0 lead and eventually pulled away for a 5-3 victory over HC Sparta Prague from the top professional league in Czechia to advance to the final of the 97th Spengler Cup in Davos, Switzerland.
Defenseman
Jake Livanavage put together one of his best games of the tournament in the win, as the Phoenix, Ariz., native paced all UCSC skaters in ice time at 20:35 and notched an assist on the game's first goal. Livanavage drew the penalty and then cashed in with a slick feed on the ensuing power play to set up the tally from fellow NCHC blueliner Eric Pohlkamp early in the first period.
Abram Wiebe was also solid on the backend, finishing with a plus-2 rating and amassing over 17 minutes of ice time for the USCS.
USCS becomes the first North American team to reach the final since Team Canada in 2019 and will play either HC Davos or HC Fribourg-Gottéron on Wednesday morning.
