GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The University of North Dakota men's tennis team wrapped up a weekend sweep over Bellarmine on Saturday afternoon with a 6-1 win from Choice Health and Fitness in Grand Forks, N.D.
The win improves UND to 5-3 on the season and hands the Fighting Hawks their third straight win as well as a 2-0 start on their home court.
After a dominating win on Friday night over the Knights, the Hawks had to battle in doubles play with the No. 3 pairing of
Ethan Terry and
Jerall Yasin starting it off with a 6-3 win before Bellarmine answered back with a win on the top court to have the middle position serve as the decider for the opening point. The all-freshman duo of
Leo Galliano and
Andrew Hayduke II delivered the 1-0 lead for the hosts with a 6-4 triumph to secure the doubles point for the second straight contest.
Galliano kept the momentum on the side of the green and white as play moved to singles, notching a 6-3, 6-0 win on the No. 4 court to extend the advantage to 2-0. After Bellarmine grabbed its first point of the weekend at the top spot to cut the UND lead to 2-1,
Jayho Hong restored the two-point lead with a 6-2, 6-4 victory from the No. 6 position to push the lead to 3-1.
Terry, who secured the seventh point of the night on Friday, recorded the clinch in the finale with a 7-6, 6-1 triumph on the No. 5 court before
Leandro Zgraggen added the fifth point of the afternoon from the second spot by a 6-4, 6-1 score.
Hayduke II traded 6-4 scores in his first two stanzas, but held on in an 11-9 super tiebreaker at the No. 3 position to seal the 6-1 victory.
North Dakota will hit the road next weekend to battle Marquette on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m.
