MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- The University of North Dakota men's tennis team kept its winning ways going, notching a 4-3 win over Marquette on Saturday night from the Sprovieri Tennis Complex in Milwaukee, Wis.
UND wins its fourth straight match to improve to 7-3 on the season and 5-3 away from Grand Forks. The Fighting Hawks have also won every way possible during their four-match stretch, winning by scores of 7-0, 6-1, 5-2 and 4-3.
Doubles played a huge factor in the match once again, with UND earning a critical point with wins on the No. 1 and 3 courts. The bottom pairing of
Christos Alex and
Leo Galliano started it off with a 6-4 victory before
Leandro Zgraggen and
Ange-Kevin Koua secured the 1-0 lead for the visitors with a 7-6 triumph on the top spot.
Zgraggen and Galliano kept their strong play going in singles, with the duo each grabbing a win to give the Hawks their second and third points of the night. Zgraggen notched a 6-4, 6-1 triumph on the No. 1 court while Galliano moved back up to the third position and grabbed a 6-2, 7-6 victory.
Marquette wouldn't go down without a fight, however, rattling off three singles wins of its own to bring the match level at 3-3, but
Jayho Hong clinched the match on the No. 5 court with a 7-6, 1-6, 6-3 victory to give the visitors a 4-3 win.
North Dakota will go for the weekend sweep over Marquette on Saturday afternoon.
