Hawks threaten, unable to plate runners against New Mexico

North Dakota strands 11 runners, leaves bases loaded in seventh in loss to Lobos

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – After several cancellations throughout the week, North Dakota softball was finally able to get back on the field on Friday afternoon at the Tarleton Invitational. The Fighting Hawks threatened throughout its opener with New Mexico but were unable to plate any of its 11 base runners in a 2-0 defeat to the Lobos. The loss drops UND to 5-6 on the season.

North Dakota's last chance was their best chance to scratch runs in the defeat. UND loaded the bases with no outs in the home half of the seventh inning, but a fly out and back-to-back looking strikeouts put the clamps on the Hawks.

UND left runners on base in every inning but the second and left multiple Hawks on the base paths in the first, fourth and fifth innings in addition to the final frame.

Jackie Albrecht suffered the loss after tossing 2.2 innings allowing just three hits, but four walks proved costly as the Lobos' run-scoring second inning benefitted from a pair of base on balls. Unity Nelson pitched 4.1 innings and allowed just two hits and a walk, while fanning four as she faced five over the minimum.

Hawks turned to the leather early as Albrecht induced a 4-6-3, Angie Dumlao to Katie Joten to Katelyn Neumayer, double play, the fourth of the season by UND, to strand the bags full of Lobos. North Dakota forced nine Lobos to remain on base at multiple innings end.

The Hawks return to action on Saturday for a pair of matchups. UND takes on host Tarleton State (2:30 p.m.) and New Mexico (4:45 p.m.) . The action can be seen on WAC International. Live stats for the matchup will be available at www.FightingHawks.com.
