North Dakota suffers two losses on Friday at Wofford Invitational

Hawks run-ruled by Buffalo, edged in the eighth by Tennessee State

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – North Dakota softball suffered a pair of losses on Friday at the Wofford Invitational. The Hawks went toe-to-toe with the MAC's Buffalo, but the Bulls broke the contest open with an eight-run fourth inning to win 12-2 in five. In the second game, North Dakota rallied with a three-run seventh inning to force extras against Tennessee State but was edged 6-5 in the eighth. The losses move UND's overall record to 7-9.

Buffalo led 2-0 after one inning of play, but the Hawks evened the contest at 2-2 with an RBI double by Camryn Lasota and an RBI groundout from Hannah Thompson in the second. The Bulls pushed across single runs in the second and third innings before striking for eight runs in the fourth as Buffalo manufactured seven hits in the frame and stole three bases.

Against the Tigers, Taya Hopfauf evened the score in the home half of the first with a single into centerfield. UND grabbed the lead in the fourth inning as Lasota left the yard for the second time this season to put the Hawks up 2-1. TSU answered with two runs in the fifth inning and plated two more in the seventh to send UND to its final at bat down 5-2.

In the seventh, Brooklyn House singled with one out, Joten was hit by pitch and Quincie Chunestudey doubled in both to pull the Hawks to within a run of the TSU advantage. Hopfauf then singled home Chunestudey to even the game at 5-5, but the Hawks stranded two runners on in the frame. After a sac fly by TSU gave the Tigers the lead in the eighth, the Hawks had runners at first and second with one out, but were unable to produce the tying run.

The Hawks conclude their stay in the Palmetto State with two games on Saturday. UND rematches with Buffalo (11:30 a.m.) and Wofford (4:30 p.m.). Live stat links for the weekend's action will be available at www.FightingHawks.com.
