ORLANDO, Fla. -- The University of North Dakota men's tennis team kept its winning ways going on Tuesday evening, extending its win streak to eight straight following a 6-1 victory over Fairfield in the second match of the week down in Florida.
UND (11-3) had to rally back on the doubles courts, but grabbed a 1-0 lead with a pair of wins on the top pair of courts. After a tough loss from the third position, the No. 1 duo of
Ange-Kevin Koua and
Leandro Zgraggen leveled two-person play with a 6-3 win before
Ethan Terry and
Leo Galliano secured the advantage for the Fighting Hawks in a thrilling, 7-6 match from the middle spot.
The momentum stayed with the green and white following the dramatic doubles point victory, with Galliano and Koua quickly notching wins on the No. 3 and 2 courts, respectively, each by a 6-1, 6-2 score to turn the 1-0 lead into a 3-0 advantage and put the Hawks in a clinching position.
It was Zgraggen providing the clinch for the second straight day, as the senior tallied a 6-2, 6-4 triumph from the top spot to secure the overall match victory and a 4-0 lead. Terry sandwiched 6-0, 6-1 scores around a tough middle set on the No. 5 court to increase the advantage to 5-0 while
Andrew Hayduke II closed out the evening with a 6-3, 7-6 win from the fourth position to close out the 6-1 victory.
North Dakota will look to make it a clean sweep in the Sunshine State against Niagara tomorrow morning at 11 a.m.
