Hawks take two from Tennessee Tech

North Dakota match DI era record for best 25-game start

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – North Dakota softball put together a pair of complete efforts on Tuesday afternoon as the Fighting Hawks took both ends of a doubleheader from Tennessee Tech winning by scores of 7-4 and 8-2 to improve to 14-11 on the season. That mark matches the program's best 25-game start to a season in its Division I era. .

In the opener, the Hawks rallied from a 3-0 deficit through four innings of play. UND broke through offensively in the fifth on a Callie Honig RBI single and then pulled within a run of the Golden Eagles' advantage as Camryn Lasota flew out in foul territory down the right field line to plate a pair as the fielder collided with the wall in an effort to make the play.

Unity Nelson produced a superb effort in relief as she scattered three hits and a free pass in 4.1 scoreless innings, while striking out a career high eight batters. Makaela Carr took over for the freshman right hander and finished off the final 1.2 innings as she faced just one over the minimum.

The late inning offensive surge continued in the sixth as Brooklyn Morris singled to lead off the frame and promptly advanced to third on a Hailey Bethune double. A pair of sacrifice flies by Katie Joten and Jackie Albrecht, who executed in a pinch hit role, pushed the Hawks out front 5-4, while Carr stranded two TTU runners on in the home half of the inning.

North Dakota added two more insurance runs in their final trip to the plate as Morris delivered UND's fourth sac fly of the afternoon and Bethune singled in the seventh run.

The Hawks practically duplicated their successes from the day's opener in game two as UND recorded nine more hits and came alive in the back half of the game scoring six of its eight runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

UND grabbed the lead in the first inning on UND's fifth sacrifice fly of the day which came from Honig and then in the fourth inning, the Hawks took a 2-0 lead as one of three TTU throwing errors allowed Honig (LO 2B) to score. TTU scratched its first run in the fifth to partially answer a four-run top half by the Hawks and added a second run on a solo shot in the seventh.

In the Hawks' fifth, Joten singled and came around to score on a two-run single by Honig which also plated Quincie Chunestudey who singled earlier in the frame. A single down the line in right field off the bat of Camryn Lasota plated Katelyn Neumayer (BB) and pushed Honig to third. Lasota and Honig executed the double steal as Honig swiped the plate for a sixth UND run. In the sixth, UND used just one hit and took advantage of two TTU errors to add the final two runs of the day with Joten and Taya Hopfauf both scoring.

Carr, who earned the save in the opener, went the distance in game two pitching around seven hits and three walks to fan six as she won for the seventh time in 2025.

The Hawks remain in Tennessee for the ETSU Invitational on Thursday through Saturday in Johnson City. UND will play both East Tennessee State and Dartmouth twice.
