SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – North Dakota distance runner
Jadyn Keeler from the track and field team was named the Kwik Star Summit League Women's Peak Performer of the Month for her performances in February, the league offices announced on Wednesday.
With the accolade, Keeler is the first Fighting Hawk from any team to earn the title of Kwik Star Summit League Women's Peak Performer of the Month. Jocelyn Schiller from the women's basketball team was the Kwik Star Summit League Women's Peak Newcomer of the Month in January and
Ethan Thomas from the track and field program was the Kwik Star Summit League Men's Peak Newcomer of the Month in December.
Keeler became just the fourth Fighting Hawk to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships and is the first student-athlete at North Dakota to qualify for the meet in a track event in UND's Division I history, qualifying for the meet with a time of 15:28.29 in the 5,000 meters in Boston on Feb. 15. She was the fifth collegiate runner to cross the finish line at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational and completely obliterated her previous school record time of 15:57.19.
At the Summit League Indoor Championships at the end of the month, Keeler was a triple crown winner, claiming the titles in the mile (4:45.90), 3,000 meters (9:21.78) and 5,000 meters (16:20.88). Her 5,000-meter time shattered the Summit League Indoor Championships meet record time of 16:25.16, set by Jennie Baragar-Petrash of North Dakota State in 2021. At the conclusion of the conference championship meet, Keeler was named the Track Championship M.V.P.
Keeler will enter the NCAA Indoor Championships in Virginia Beach this Friday and comes into the meet as the No. 16 seed in the 5,000 meters. She is slated to run at the Virginia Beach Sports Center at 3:42 p.m. (CT). Teammate
Kenna Curry will also compete at the indoor national meet in the weight throw on Friday at 1:15 p.m. (CT).
The rest of the Fighting Hawks will be kicking off the outdoor season this Friday on the campus of Riverside Community College in California and competing in the Riverside Open.
