OMAHA, Neb. -- The University of North Dakota men's tennis team kept rolling on Saturday afternoon, taking down Creighton, 5-2, in Omaha.
The win extends the winning streak to 12, furthering the program record, while also matching the program's all-time record for wins in a single season with 15 and improving to a whopping 12-3 this season away from Grand Forks.
UND (15-3) got off to a strong start, grabbing a pair of wins on the No. 1 and 2 doubles courts to take an early 1-0 lead. The middle pairing of
Ethan Terry and
Andrew Hayduke II opened it up with a 6-2 victory before
Ange-Kevin Koua and
Leandro Zgraggen sealed the 1-0 advantage for the visitors on the No. 1 court with a 6-4 triumph.
Creighton, who was riding a winning streak of its own entering the match, evened the match at 1-1 on the No. 5 court, but UND took back the lead when
Jerall Yasin rolled to a 6-4, 6-1 victory from bottom position to make it 2-1 in favor of the Hawks.
The remainder of the contests went the distance, with UND winning three of the final four matches in three sets. After Creighton leveled the score at 2-2, Hayduke II rallied from a first set defeat to grab a 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 win on the No. 4 court to put the Hawks in a clinching position with a 3-2 win.
It was Koua who clinched the win for NoDak from the third spot with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 triumph while Zgraggen cemented the overall match victory with a 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 win from the No. 1 court.
North Dakota and Creighton will battle again on Sunday morning at 9 a.m. from Omaha.
