UND Athletics, Simplot celebrate growing partnership with “Stopping Hunger” check presentation

| By:
GRAND FORKS, N.D. – North Dakota Athletics and Simplot celebrated the conclusion of the "Stopping Hunger" campaign for the 2024-25 athletic season with a special check presentation at the Ralph Engelstad Arena on Wednesday.

Members of UND Athletics, SAAC representatives and Simplot presented a check of $10,187 to Northlands Rescue Mission and United Way of Grand Forks and East Grand Forks to help stop hunger and food insecurities in our local region.

"This program is a great way for us in Fighting Hawks Sports Partnerships to connect with the community through a terrific corporate partner like Simplot," said Director of Athletics Bill Chaves. "We look forward to continuing this relationship for many years to come."

After donating just shy of 40,000 pounds of food in their first year, the goal heading into this year's campaign was to eclipse the 40,000-pound mark. With every volleyball block, football tackle, opponent missed shot in basketball and hockey save this season, that goal was surpassed, with 40,745 pounds donated. The contribution will be split equally between the two local organizations.

The campaign aims to build on this season's success next year, turning every block, tackle, save, and missed opponent shot into another opportunity to give back.
