National Poll
In the latest national poll released by the USTFCCCA, the North Dakota women are No. 41 nationally.
The No. 41-ranking is the best the Fighting Hawks have ever been ranked since the creation of the poll in 2011. The previous-best ranking UND has received came last week, when NoDak sat No. 42. North Dakota is also the highest ranked team from the Summit League in the poll, followed by South Dakota (No. 47).
As a team, UND has four student-athletes ranked in the top-25 in their respective events in the NCAA.
Jadyn Keeler (10,000 meters) and
Kenna Curry (hammer throw) lead the women and are both No. 6 nationally in their events.
Ethan Thomas paces the men's squad and is No. 19 in the country in the shot put. Keeler is also No. 22 in the 5,000 meters, while
Malene Kollberg has the No. 22 score in the heptathlon.
Ranked in the Midwest Region
In the most recent USTFCCCA Midwest Region rankings, the Fighting Hawk women slipped one spot to No. 12, while the Fighting Hawk men dropped a spot to No. 23.
On the women's team, three Fighting Hawks are in the top five regionally.
Jadyn Keeler is at the top of the region in both the 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters.
Kenna Curry sits No. 3 in the hammer throw and
Malene Kollberg has the No. 4 heptathlon score regionally.
For the men,
Ethan Thomas is the lone Hawk in the top five of the region and has the No. 5 throw in the shot put.
Henrik Lindstrot is the next-best ranked UND athlete and is just outside the top-10 with the No. 13 time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
North Dakota Performs Well in USTFCCCA #EventSquad Rankings
In the seventh USTFCCCA #EventSquad rankings, the Fighting Hawks have five groups ranked highly. The ranking system uses the best qualifying marks from a team's top-four ranked athletes in an event.
• #10 Heptathlon
• #12 Women's Hammer Throw
• #14 Women's Shot Put
• #22 Women's Discus
• #25 Men's Triple Jump
Last Time Out
On a windy and hazy day at the Terrence Dahl and Donna Beres Track Complex last Friday, North Dakota recorded eight event wins and posted seven improvements to the UND top-10 list at the NDSU Tune-Up.
Ethan Thomas led the team and captured two throwing titles at the meet. He claimed the crowns in both the discus (181-2, 55.24m) and javelin (190-7, 58.11m). His mark in the discus improved his No. 2 throw in school history and he now sits No. 48 in the NCAA West Region in the event.
Justina Esangbedo won the women's javelin with a throw of 131-3 (40.02m).
On the track,
Malene Kollberg was victorious in the 100-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 13.63 and moved up to No. 2 on the UND top-10 list with that time. Teammate
Tiffanie Magnusson was also in the race and clocked a PR of 14.45, which now sits No. 7 in program history.
Marta Marksa won the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 61.47.
Brooklyn Brouse captured the crown in the 800 meters, clocking a time of 2:14.68.
Ella Hedman was the first Hawk to take the track and won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 12:05.39.
Towards the end of the meet, UND's 4x400-meter relay team of
Jiri Ceska,
Jory Vasek,
P.K. Moore and
Henry Nelson won the title in 3:16.50, which now ranks as the No. 7 time on the UND top-10 list.
Emily Ash,
Jerzie Finstad and
Cruz Megazzini also climbed the UND top-10 list in their respective events. Ash cleared a PR height of 12-8 1/4 (3.87m) and now ranks No. 2 in the pole vault on the UND top-10 list. Finstad had a PR of 11.80 in the 100 meters and moved up to No. 2 in the event in program history. Megazzini climbed from No. 5 to No. 2 in school history in the 200 meters with a personal-best time of 21.39.
During the meet, a number of Fighting Hawks also earned marks that looked like they would be improvements on the UND top-10 list but were not countable by NCAA rule due to the wind being over +4.0 meters/second. The meet saw wind gusts up to +6.5 meters/second during some events.
