GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Incoming freshman forward Cole Reschny was one of 44 players named to the 2025 Canadian World Junior Summer Showcase roster, as announced by the federation on Sunday.
Four goaltenders, 12 defensemen and 20 forwards will take part in practices, scrimmages and a trio of exhibition games against Finland, Sweden and the United States in preparation for the 2026 IIHF World Junior Championship, Dec. 26–Jan. 5 in Minneapolis and St. Paul.
The player selection process was led by Alan Millar (Tottenham, ON), general manager of the Program of Excellence, alongside Program of Excellence head scout Byron Bonora (Brooks, AB) and Mark Hunter (Petrolia, ON/London, OHL), U20 lead with the POE management group. Scott Salmond (Creston, BC), Hockey Canada's senior vice-president, high performance and hockey operations, and Benoit Roy (Sudbury, ON), director of hockey operations, also provided input.
The players will be split into two teams – Red and White – for practices and an intrasquad game on July 29, before taking on Finland July 30, Sweden on Aug. 1 and the United States on Aug. 2.
Reschny is coming off a stellar season with the Victoria Royals of the Western Hockey League, finishing ninth in the league with 92 points in just 62 games. His level of play rose even higher in the postseason, where he notched 25 points in only 11 postseason contests to finish second in points per game (2.27).
The Macklin, Saskatchewan, native also has previous international experience under his belt, as he also represented Canada at the IIHF World Under-18 Tournament this past April. At the event, he scored five goals and tallied eight points to help lead the Canadians to a gold medal.
Reschny will compete against UND teammates
EJ Emery,
Mac Swanson and Will Zellers, who are representing the United States at the event. Defenseman Sam Laurila was also named to the U.S. roster, but had to withdraw due to an injury.
