GRAND FORKS, N.D. – North Dakota fell, 1-0, to Denver at Bronson Field to open Summit League play on Thursday afternoon. A Pioneer goal at the 56th minute decided the match.
Despite being outshot 12-6, the Fighting Hawks (6-4-1, 0-1 Summit League) had chances throughout the contest and held a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal. DU's game-winning shot happened in the 56th minute, when Hannah Tate drove inside the box and found the back of the net off a pass from Rowan LaPiano.
Paula Moreno Diaz paced the Fighting Hawk attack with three shots (two on goal), trailed by
Charlie Basinet with three scoring attempts and one shot on frame.
Cora Ellermann,
Jessica Machovec,
Hunter Borgel and
Grace Miller also each recorded a shot on goal in the contest.
The Pioneers recorded four set pieces in the win, while the Fighting Hawks recorded just two corner kicks. Both teams played aggressively throughout the match and there were 25 total fouls called, with NoDak whistled for 13 of the penalties.
North Dakota will host Omaha at Bronson Field this Sunday at 1 p.m. The game will be streamed on The Summit League Network.
