GRAND FORKS, N.D. – North Dakota softball pitcher
Unity Nelson was named Summit League Peak Pitcher of the Week, announced by the league on Tuesday afternoon. It is the sophomore's first peak performer accolade, as UND went 5-0 this past week at the Spartan Round Up in Norfolk, Va.
Nelson was dominant in Norfolk, posting a .54 ERA across 13.0 innings, in route to a 2-0 record in two appearances. She allowed just one run and struck out 17 batters, including 12 strikeouts on March 7 vs. Farleigh Dickinson.
A native of Tecumseh, Mich., Nelson held batters to a .163 batting average, throwing complete games in both appearances this past week. She threw 6.0 scoreless innings against Norfolk State on March 6, striking out five, allowing three hits and walking three. Nelson followed that performance with a 7.0 inning, 12 strikeouts outing against Farleigh Dickinson. She gave up just four hits and one run, while walking one.
On the season, Nelson has tossed 59.0 innings, with a 2.85 ERA and 6-3 record across 10 appearances. She has thrown five complete games and struck out 24 earned runs.
NoDak is currently in Philadelphia, taking on Drexel and will take on Penn tomorrow at 12 p.m.
