FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Jadyn Keeler put the nation on notice as she put on an All-American performance at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships while North Dakota throwers had themselves a night in the opening day of outdoor competition in California.
The indoor season for UND and career for the Barrie, Ontario-native came to a close in shimmering fashion down in Arkansas at the national championship meet. Keeler clocked a time of 15:40.81 to take 12
th place overall in the women's 5000-meter run, securing Second Team All-America honors. She initially entered the race seeded 15
th off her time of 15:14.76 earlier this season at the BU Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener that made Fighting Hawk history.
Keeler remains just the fourth-ever Hawk to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships and still holds as the lone UND athlete to qualify for a track-related event. She closes her indoor career as a two-time Second Team All-American, a six-time Summit League champion and a two-time Summit League Women's Track MVP.
Out in California, several Fighting Hawks saw competition in the hammer throw at the PLNU Sea Lion Invitational. It began with the men who all finished in the top 10 of the events and was highlighted by a breakthrough performance from
Carter Byron.
His mark of 180-5 (55.01m) marked a new personal best and flew up to sixth all-time in North Dakota history.
Boaz Raderschadt came fifth with his personal best throw of 169-11 (51.80m) while
Tyler Thoreson 145-10 (44.47m) made his event debut with a 10
th place showing.
Several women's throwers also competed, but results have not yet been finalized out west.
Competition resumes tomorrow at the PLNU Sea Lion Invitational at 11 a.m. on the field and 1:30 p.m. on the track out in California.
