Cole Reschny grabs NCHC Rookie of the Week to close regular season

| By:
GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Freshman forward Cole Reschny was named NCHC Rookie of the Week on Monday afternoon, as announced by the league office.

Reschny closed out the regular season with a pair of strong performances in the series win at No. 4 Western Michigan last weekend, as the rookie notched points in both games (1G, 2A).

In Friday's 5-3 victory, Reschny dished out a pair of assists on UND's first and fifth goals of the game to help the Fighting Hawks capture the Penrose Cup as regular season champions while also finishing with a plus-2 rating and winning seven faceoffs.

The next night, the Macklin, Saskatchewan, native struck late in the third period to level the contest at 3-3 and send the game into overtime with his fifth goal of the year and close the regular season on a five-game point streak (1G, 5A).

Reschny became the third Fighting Hawk to eclipse 30 points this season and paced all NCHC rookies with 31 points in 30 games. He also led all conference freshmen with 23 points in 22 league games and is expected to earn multiple conference accolades over the next few weeks.

This marks the sixth straight week coming off a series that North Dakota has garnered a weekly award from the NCHC and the third honor for Reschny.

North Dakota opens the NCHC Frozen Faceoff as the No. 1 seed and will battle No. 8 seed Omaha in the quarterfinals beginning on Friday night at 7:07 p.m. (CT) from Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, N.D.
