FARGO, N.D. -- The University of North Dakota track and field teams wrapped up a successful weekend at the 2026 Summit League Outdoor Championships on Saturday in Fargo, N.D.
The UND women recorded its highest finish since the program joined the Summit League by placing second with 196 points while the Fighting Hawk men scored 77 points and placed fifth overall. On the final day of competition, the Fighting Hawks broke a pair of school records and saw 10 earn medalist honors to finish the weekend with four new school records and 22 medals earned.
A trio of Fighting Hawks took home awards, with
Jadyn Keeler (women's track),
Justina Esangbedo (women's field) and
Louis-Lys Fanucchi (men's track) each earning Most Valuable Player honors for the championships in their respective categories.
Keeler was named Women's Track Championship MVP after scoring 38 points. She won three events during the championship, taking gold in the 10,000-meter run, 5,000-meter run, 3,000-meter steeplechase and earned a sliver in the 1,500-meter run.
Esangbedo was named Women's Field Championship MVP after scoring in four different events during the championship. She placed third in the discus, fourth in the triple jump, sixth in the shot put and seventh in javelin.
Fanucchi was named Men's Track Championship MVP after earning the same accolade during the indoor season. He finished runner-up in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and 1,500-meter run and took fourth in the 5,000-meter run to rack up 21 points for the Fighting Hawks.
The day started with a bang in the field for North Dakota, as
Ilaria Villa took home the top honors in the women's discus by nearly 10 feet at 164-07 (50.18m) while Esangbedo joined her teammate on the podium in third with a top throw of 154-01 (46.98m).
UND took home another pair of medals in the women's 1500-meter run, with
Olivia Correale surging to the front of the pack to claim the title with a time of 4:26.49 and Keeler grabbing runner-up honors at 4:27.46 to continue a dominant performance in the distance events for the green and white. Moments later, Fanucchi added a medal in the same event on the men's side with a 3:59.96 in a tight finish at the top.
The first school record fell in the first track event of the day at the women's 4x100-meter relay. The team of
Alimath Salou,
Ava Phrakonkham,
Gretchen Raney and
Tiffanie Magnusson combined to run a 46.95 time to break the school record by 0.01 second and finish sixth in the field.
Josh Neil earned the second school record of the day, as the Grand Forks, N.D., native ran a 52.27 mark in the men's 400-meter hurdles to finish third while
Ryan Lange also scored for UND with an eighth place finish at 55.12.
Brooklyn Brouse earned a podium spot and medalist honors in the women's 800-meter run by placing third at 2:12.42 in a race that saw the top five finishers all place within 0.56 seconds of each other. Correale also scored in the event and finished seventh at 2:17.50.
Shane Zierden collected the final medal of the day for UND, placing third in the men's triple jump at 48.07.50 (14.82m).
The top 48 declared student-athletes in each event will be accepted into the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds, scheduled for May 27–30 in Fayetteville, Ark., hosted by Arkansas. The top 24 declared relay teams and the top 24 national performers in the heptathlon and decathlon will also be accepted into postseason competition.
