UND mourns the loss of Guy LaFrance

| By:
GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The University of North Dakota men's hockey program mourns the loss of Hall of Famer Guy LaFrance, who passed away earlier this week. He was 88.

LaFrance played three seasons at North Dakota from 1957-1960, where he finished as a point-per-game player with 93 points in 93 career games. He scored 33 goals and dished out 60 assists while also serving as a team captain and earning All-WCHA Second Team honors in 1959-60.

The Fort Frances, Ontario, native was part of a pair of memorable teams in North Dakota history. He helped the Fighting Sioux reach the national tournament for the first time in program history in 1957-58 before guiding the team to its first of eight NCAA National Championships in 1958-59.

He was a critical part of that 1958-59 title squad, as he scored the overtime winner against St. Lawrence in the semifinal game before notching an assist on Reg Morelli's OT goal in the title game against Michigan State to win the championship.

Following his collegiate career, LaFrance played professional hockey in Minnesota and Austria before serving as a scout for many years.

LaFrance was inducted into the UND Letterwinners Athletics Hall of Fame as an individual in 1997 while his 1958-59 team was inducted in 2002. The 1957-58 team is set to be inducted as part of the recently announced Hall of Fame Class of 2026.
