Women’s Soccer Defeats Presbyterian for First Win of the Season

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – North Dakota soccer overcame a tied halftime score and collected its first win of the 2026 season as the Fighting Hawks defeated the Presbyterian Blue Hose, 2-1, on Thursday afternoon at Bronson Field.

The first scored goal came from the home team as Lillian Bashaw netted the first shot of her career in the 15th minute with a header off an assist from Viktoria Filsner to put the Fighting Hawks ahead 1-0. North Dakota remained in control for the next nearly 30 minutes before the visiting Blue Hose drilled in an equalizer in the 44th minute.

UND fended off any further late rally from Presbyterian to keep the score at 1-1 heading into the halftime break. And that same score held until the 83rd minute of the second half.

Annie Stook scored a header of her own to break the long-standing tie and give UND the 2-1 lead. Her first goal as a Fighting Hawk proved to be the game winner, then, as North Dakota held on to emerge victorious on home field.

Four different Fighting Hawks scored in the afternoon affair with two goals and two assists logged. Hunter Borgel and Charlie Basinet led the home team with three shots apiece as Thale Ruether spent all 90 minutes in as goalkeeper, tallying four saves.

North Dakota returns home for its second game of a two-match home slate by hosting Prairie View A&M on Sunday, August 30 which will also feature Senior Day festivities.
