GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The 2026 athletic season is officially kicking off as North Dakota soccer is set to start the slate with a pair of exhibition matches—facing one on the road and one at home.
It all begins down in Des Moines, Iowa, as the Fighting Hawks face the Bulldogs in exhibition play that is set to begin at 6 p.m. at Mediacom Stadium. UND will then return home for a 1 p.m. exhibition match against Regina on Sunday afternoon on the home turf on Bronson Field.
Neither contest will be livestreamed.
2026 will mark the second season at the helm of the program for head coach
Henrik Sohn who led his team to its first 5-0 start since 2005 just last season. 2025 also saw the Fighting Hawks secure their first conference victory since 2023 and first conference road victory since 2020. Under Sohn's direction, UND ended the season ranked in the top-50 nationally in goals per game, collected five All-Summit League honors, scored the second-most goals in the Division I era (35) and tied for the second-most season shutouts in the D1 era at eight.
North Dakota returners two All-Summit League honorees to its 2026 roster with
Cora Ellermann set for her senior season as a midfielder and
Charlie Basinet back for her junior year as a forward. Ellerman collected Second Team and All-Newcomer accolades as Basinet earned an Honorable Mention nod. The duo held the top two spots in total goals scored for UND, combining for 13 netted shots, 12 assists and 38 points.
