GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- It's not quite the longest span between gridiron meetings in North Dakota football history but the 62-year gap in the St. Thomas series is the bronze medalist. For context, UND went 104 seasons between match ups with Minnesota Crookston (1896 to 2000) and 69 between tilts with St. Cloud State (1900 to 1969).

These two squads last met in 1964 when UND defeated the visiting Tommies 30-6 at Memorial Stadium and will match up for the first time with both programs at the Division I level Saturday at 3 p.m. CT.

Both teams won their season openers at home last Thursday with North Dakota posting a 42-21 win over LIU and St. Thomas using a late touchdown to oust Winona State 15-9 in St. Paul.

The Fighting Hawks were pegged to finish fourth in the Missouri Valley preseason poll, while the Tommies were slotted third in the Pioneer Football League preseason poll. 

This is the Tommies' sixth season at the Division I FCS level and head coach Glenn Caruso has guided his team to a top-three finish in the PFL in each of those seasons, including a title in 2022.
