GRAND FORKS, N.D.-- The University of North Dakota swimming and diving team finished the 2005-06 season with the men in third place with 402 points and the women in fourth place with 304 points at the NCAA Division II Championships held in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Overall, there were many personal best times and school records that were achieved throughout the NCAA Championships for both the Sioux men and women. This is the best team results for the Sioux swimming and diving program since 2001, when they finished in the same spots as this season.

Further, the Sioux men won three out of five relay events and two individual events. Since 2001, the men have finished in the top three overall in every season. This is the second most event titles won by the men since 2002, when they won seven. The women finished in the top-eight in all events. 

In the men's 400 freestyle relay, the Sioux men were able to take first place as sophomore Adam Rollins, junior Rodrigo Ferreira, sophomore Eric Knight and freshman Per Westergren became the first team in school history to finish under three minutes in the event with a time of 2:59.94.

The women were able to leap-frog West Chester University when the 400 freestyle relay team finished in fourth place with a time of 3:28.74, earning 30 points to move ahead into fourth place overall in the standings. On the relay team was freshman Beth Kizcula, junior Jenny Bachmeier, senior Lauren Mickelson and junior Madonna Dorsher.

In the 100 freestyle, Ferreira finished in second place in :44.22 for the Sioux men and for the women Dorsher came in fifth in :51.88.

Head coach Mavi Sampaio was very pleased with his team's effort at the NCAA's. "We had an awesome meet over the last four days. We tried as hard as we could to do as much as we could and I am very happy with the results. Overall, it has been a great year for Sioux swimming and diving," said Sampaio.
