Sioux skate to 3-3 tie with BSU in UND's first official game

Box ScoreBEMIDJI, MINN.--Freshman Liz Funk scored the first goal in Fighting Sioux women's hockey history and freshman netminder Amber Hasbargen made 31 saves as the University of North Dakota (0-0-1)and Bemidji State (1-3-1, 1-1-0 WCHA) played to a 3-3 overtime tie Sunday at the John S. Glas Fieldhouse.
Funk's historic tally came just 1:42 into the opening period on assists from fellow freshmen Lauren Myers and Jessica Kovacevich. The Sioux extended the lead to 2-0 on a Myers power play goal at 9:25, with Funk and Natasha Holt drawing the assists.
UND made it 3-0 6:01 into the third period, when Sherrie White scored her first goal as a Fighting Sioux on a Stasia Bakhit assist.
Bemidji State began a third period rally on Mandy Bambrough's goal 2:40 into the final frame, and the Beavers narrowed the gap to 3-2 when Amber Fryklund scored with 2:31 remaining. With Bemidji State goalie Anik Cote pulled for an extra attacker, the Beavers finally pulled even on a Guylaine Hache goal with just 21 seconds remaining. Nothing was settled in the overtime session.
Hasbargen made 31 saves, including 10 in the third period, for the Fighting Sioux. Cote stopped all 14 shots she faced after replacing BSU starter Bre Dedrickson in the second period.
UND makes its home debut Saturday, Oct. 26 when the Fighting Sioux host Boston College at Ralph Engelstad Arena. The puck drops at 2:05.
