Danijel Mihailovic

Originally from Belgrade, Serbia, Danijel Mihailovic joined the North Dakota men's basketball coaching staff in July 2018. This will be his third season on the staff at North Dakota. 
 
Some of his responsibilities include: helping on the offensive end of the floor, offensive game preparation, guards’ skill development and international, high school and prep school recruiting. In the most recent 2019-20 season, UND was ranked offensively in the top 18% teams in the NCAA in points per possession. 

Mihailovic has helped UND guard, Marlon Stewart, develop to lead the Summit League in both scoring and assists while earning All-Summit League First Team and All-Tournament honors.

International recruits at UND currently include sophomore forward Filip Rebraca from Serbia (All-Summit League Honorable Mention), who in 2019-20 season recorded the most double-doubles in the Summit League, averaging 14.3 pts and 8.9 reb for the season. Freshman Gertautas Urbonavicius is a member of the Lithuanian National Team. 

Prior to UND, Mihailovic has spent a majority of his professional career working on player development with athletes from the National Basketball Association as well as professional players of Euroleague, Eurocup and FIBA Champions League.  

Some of the most notable athletes Mihailovic has worked with include
  • Boban Marjanovic (7’3 center, Dallas Mavericks center and a member of the Serbian National team. He is the most efficient scorer “per minute” in the NBA history. Most recently Boban averaged 6.3pts, 4.1 reb, 55%FG). 
  • Ivica Zubac (7’1, talented 23 year old, Los Angeles Clippers starting center and a member of Croatian National Team. Ivica Most recently averaged 8pts, 7.2 reb, 60% FG).
  • Vasilije Micic (6’5 PG, member of the Serbian National team is currently one of the most talented PGs in Europe. He is currently playing for the Turkish Euroleague powerhouse team Anadolu Efes. Vasilije was a 52ndpick in 2014 NBA draft and was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers). 
  • Maik Zirbes – 6’11 Center of the German National team 

Mihailovic spent the fall of 2017 at the Detroit Pistons' team camp and had a similar opportunity to learn from the Denver Nuggets' and Milwaukee Bucks’ staffs during the summer leading into that experience. Mihailovic also has worked with Euroleague teams from Serbia and Poland in 2014. 

As a part of his professional development, Mihailovic had an opportunity to be a part of one of the best development teams in Europe, “Mega Bemax." Mega Bemax produced more than a dozen players for the NBA in most recent years, most than any other European team, including Nuggets superstar and First Team All-NBA Nikola Jokic. Mihailovic had an opportunity to attend the legendary Tim Grgurich NBA camp in Las Vegas in 2017. In fall of 2016, Mihailovic was able to learn from UNLV staff under coach Marvin Menzes. 
 
During the 2015-2018 seasons, Mihailovic was an owner and a head coach of the Euro Elite Basketball, AAU team based in California. His teams competed in major AAU tournaments in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Las Vegas. A member of the 14U team of the Euro Elite Basketball took the second place in the nation in the Jr. NBA skills competition in New York City. 

During the 2014-15 season, Mihailovic was an assistant coach at Allan Hancock College – a member of the California Community College Athletic Association, and that team shared the Western State Conference Championship. Mihailovic helped develop Hancock’s starting center from France, Alioune Tew who that year transferred to Niagara University. 
 
As a player, Mihailovic played for Allan Hancock College in 2010-11 season where he as a starter helped his team win a Western State Conference championship first time in 37 years. Mihailovic finished his collegiate career at NCAA D2 level at Post University in Connecticut in 2013. 

Overseas, Mihailovic played professionally for Avala Ada/Mega Ishrana (today’s Mega Bemax) and Mladost Zemun in Serbia, and Rudar in Bosnia and Herzegovina. 
 
Mihailovic holds a Masters degree in Educational Leadership from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo.
