Mr. Murphy, a native of Minot, N.D., is a legendary UND basketball center, who also played football. He lettered in 1913-17 and has been a long-time Minot businessman. Playing in an era when college basketball teams averaged 20 points a game, Mr. Murphy averaged nearly 25 points a game in his distinguished career. Murphy's top scoring effort came with a 34-point outburst Jan. 23, 1917 at Jamestown College in a 60-7 UND triumph. He also was a fine football player.
