  DuChene was a super all-around athlete, competing as an outstanding football back, basketball forward and hurdler in track, 1929-32. He lettered in all three sports, three times in both football and basketball and once in track. He was an All North Central Conference basketball selection in 1930, and served as basketball captain in 1931-32 on a team that won 15 of 19 games. As a football back on Sioux teams they won 26 of 31 games, and tieing one. He also was an outstanding hurdler that annually placed high in the North Central Conference meets.
