GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The Fighting Sioux spikers lost another tough road match as they lost to conference rival, Nebraska Omaha 3-1 (30-28, 28-30, 23-30, and 22-30). For the second consecutive night the Sioux took control and won the first game, but they would lose the next three to lose the match. The Sioux are now 13-9 overall and 5-4 in the NCC. The Mavericks improve to 17-6 overall and 5-4 in the NCC.
Leading the Sioux on offense was junior Tara Holmen (Berthold, N.D.). Holmen finished with 14 kills and a .303 kill percentage. Kendyll Jones (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.) and freshmen Britta Hanson (Thompson, N.D.) each contributed 12 kills to the Fighting Sioux offense.
Defensively the Sioux were led by libero Lindsay Vortherms (So., Windom, Minn.). Vortherms finished the match with 22 digs. Seniors Heidi Evans (Roseau, Minn.) and Aileen Cahill (Blue Earth, Minn.) finished the match with 14 and 13 digs, respectively. Cahill has reached 1,000 digs in her Fighting Sioux career.
Setter Allison Louwagie (So., Marshall, Minn.) had her seventh double-double of the year as she had 41 set assists and 16 digs. Louwagie trails Evans for the team lead in double-doubles.
Senior Nicole Delahanty (Apple Valley, Minn.) moved into 10th place on the Fighting Sioux all-time career digs list. For the game she had seven digs, which moved her past former Sioux player, Jamie Skadeland.
The Sioux return to action on Tuesday night as they travel to Moorhead, Minn. to take on Minnesota State- Moorhead in a non-conference battle. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
