UND soccer ends season with victory over Minnesota Duluth

Grand Forks, N.D. ? The Fighting Sioux women's soccer team ended their 2006 season in high spirits by defeating conference opponent Minnesota Duluth (8-8-3, 4-6-2 NCC) 1-0 Sunday afternoon at Bronson Field

Minnesota Duluth had many attempts to score throughout the game but was held off by the strong Sioux defensive efforts. The Bulldogs took 19 shots at UND, but failed put any off them passed UND goalkeeper Ashley Rohwer.

UND took command of the game midway through the second period. Sophomore Sarah Thaden (Grand Forks, N.D.) led the offensive charge for the Sioux, threatening to score numerous times and breaking up the passing attempts of UMD.

Thaden's hustle paid off when she broke past the Bulldog defenders to take a pass from freshman Rose Horner (Bismarck, N.D.) in for her first goal of the season.

The win capped the Fighting Sioux's season, giving them an overall record of 10-8-2 (5-4-2 NCC). The team was 5-1-1 in their last seven games.

The team had three seniors who started their last game in a Fighting Sioux soccer uniform. They were forward captain Shannon Murphy (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) defender Kristi Boese (Rochester, Minn.) and goalkeeper Ashley Rohwer (Anoka, Minn.).
