CROOKSTON, Minn. -- The UND volleyball team went on the road to Minnesota-Crookston and came away with a big three game victory to improve to (5-5), (0-0). UND jumped up early in game one and used the momentum to win 30-24. In game two, Minnesota-Crookston jumped out to an early lead, but UND rallied and came away with a 30-26 victory. Again in game three, Minnesota-Crookston jumped out to an early lead, but the Fighting Sioux fought back and won 30-26 to take the match in convincing fashion. Head Coach
Katy Peterson had this to say about the game, "We played well, especially offensively and with our blocking effort. It realy helped us rally back in the last two games."
Leading the Fighting Sioux on the offensive attack was the duo of senior
Heidi Evans (Roseau, Minn.) and junior
Kendyll Jones (Plymouth, Minn.) as they each finished with 14 kills.
Tara Holmen (Jr., Berthold, N.D.) made a big contribution to the Sioux offense with eight kills on the evening.
Defensively the Sioux were led by
Lindsay Vortherms (So., Windom, Minn.) as she had 14 digs. Evans also contributed to the defensive effort with 10 digs, to give her a double-double for the match.
Setting the way for the Sioux hitters was sophomore
Allison Louwagie (Marshall, Minn.) and freshmen
Megan Langseth (Alexandria, Minn.). Louwagie finished with 26 set assists and Langseth finished with 10.
The Fighting Sioux volleyball team opens up their conference season this weekend with games against St. Cloud State and #5 Minnesota-Duluth.
