GRAND FORKS, N.D. ? The Fighting Sioux soccer team will take on NCC rivals St. Cloud State and Minnesota State this weekend at Bronson Field. UND will face-off with the Huskies Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. and the Mavericks Sunday at 1 p.m.
UND
The Fighting Sioux ended last weekend 0-1-1 after a 1-0 loss to the University of Mary Thursday afternoon and a 3-3 double overtime tie with South Dakota on Saturday. UND is 5-10-3 on the season, 0-7-3 in NCC action. The Fighting Sioux are averaging 11.3 shots/game this season. UND is averaging 2.01 goals/game while playing at home compared to their opponents at 1.37. Senior Stacy Pappas (Bloomington, Minn.) will play the last home series of her collegiate career at Bronson Field this weekend. Pappas has one goal and three assists and has participated in all but one game this season.
St. Cloud State
The Huskies played to a 1-1 tied last weekend with Augustana and enter this weekend with an overall record of 4-11-2 (2-7-1 NCC). Head coach Stephanie McGuinness is in her eighth season at St. Cloud, posting a 44-70-13 record over the last seven years. Ten returning athletes, including NCC Rookie of the Year Elizabeth Kelly (goalkeeper), provide a large group of juniors and seniors ready to improve upon their 4-14-4 record last season. The Huskies rank third in the NCC in saves with 110.
Minnesota State
The Mavericks claimed the regular season North Central Conference crown last Friday and earned an automatic bid into the NCAA tournament. The Mavericks enter this weekend on an 11 game winning streak, posting an overall record of 15-2 with a perfect 10-0 record in the NCC. Minnesota State is tied for fourth place in the nation in the latest NSCAA/adidas poll, sharing the spot the University of Incarnate Word (Texas). In her 11th season as head coach, Chris Miskec brings back with her three seniors who together guided the Mavericks to second place last year in the NCC.
