GRAND FORKS, N.D. ? The UND soccer team will face both an NCC rival and Division I opponent this weekend in an attempt to generate another winning streak. The Fighting Sioux will take on St. Cloud State Friday evening at 7 p.m. and Northern Iowa at 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
Fighting Sioux
UND (5-5-1, 0-3-1 NCC) went 0-1-1 this past weekend, playing to a 0-0 double overtime tie with Minnesota Duluth Sunday afternoon after losing to Augustana 1-3 on Friday. Sophomores Megan Tracy and Lauren Herrmann lead the Fighting Sioux in points on the season; Tracy has 10 while Herrmann has nine. UND has the lead in corner kicks over their opponents, 62-34. UND leads the series against the Huskies, 5-2.
St. Cloud State
The Huskies (3-5-1, 1-3-0 NCC) are currently on a three-game losing streak. St. Cloud lost both of their games last weekend; a 0-3 loss to Nebraska-Omaha Saturday afternoon and a 1-4 loss to South Dakota Sunday afternoon. Head coach Stephanie McGuinness is in her eighth season at St. Cloud, posting a 44-70-13 record over the last seven years. Ten returning athletes, including NCC Rookies of the Year Elizabeth Kelly (goalkeeper), provide a large group of juniors and seniors ready to improve upon their 4-14-4 record last season.
Northern Iowa
Division I Northern Iowa, a member of the Missouri Valley conference, comes back after posting a 2-16-0 overall record in 2006. Led by third year head coach Kathy Kakoyianni-Bering, the Panthers return seven seniors, including captains Meghan Schoeberl (defense), Amy Seubert (midfield), and Heidi O'Mara (goalkeeper). This will be the first meeting between the two teams.
