Robbie Bina one of 20 finalists for Lowe's Senior CLASS Award

GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- UND men's hockey defenseman Robbie Bina (Sr., Grand Forks, N.D.) is one of 20 collegiate men's hockey players who have been selected as candidates for Lowe's Senior Class Award, which will be presented to college hockey's outstanding Division I senior student-athlete at the 2008 Frozen Four.

Bina, a communications major who has a 3.15 grade point average, is one of three student-athletes from the Western Collegiate Hockey Association among the 20 candidates for the men's award. Other candidates from WCHA schools are Peter Mannino from Denver and Marty Mjelleli from St. Cloud State.

Bina, a WCHA All-Academic selection last season, is scheduled to graduate from UND in May.

Candidates for the award must be a senior, on track to graduate and have displayed excellence in athletics, academics and community service.

From the list of 20 candidates, a national media committee will select 10 finalists for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award in late January 2008. Those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot for a nationwide vote that will include coaches, media and fans. The award winner will be announced and recognized at the 2008 NCAA Frozen Four in Denver, Colo.

The Lowe's award program began in 2001 to recognize men's basketball players and has since expanded to include other sports. Last year the inaugural men's hockey award winner was David Brown of Notre Dame.
