UND downs Jamestown for seventh straight victory

GRAND FORKS, N.D.--Senior guard Ervin Youmans scored a game-high 21 points and dished out six assists to lead the Fighting Sioux to an 85-71 win over Jamestown tonight at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center.

The win pushes UND's winning streak to seven games, the longest streak for the Sioux since winning 12 straight in 2001-02.

Youmans led a balanced Fighting Sioux attack that seemingly couldn't miss in the first half. The Sioux shot a blistering 76.9 (20-for-26) over the first 20 minutes before “cooling” to an event 50 percent (14-for-28) in the second half.

Youmans was the catalyst, going 9-for-13 from the field en route to his seventh 20-point effort in 10 games this season.

Jamestown was able to grab an early 5-2 lead before the Sioux erupted for an 18-2 run that was capped off by a Wes Porter (Jr., Arvada, Colo.) fast break basket.

UND remained in control for the remainder of the half behind the trio of Youmans, Emmanuel Little (Sr., Chicago, Ill.) and Jimmy Hoy (Sr., West Fargo, N.D.), each of whom went 4-for-6 from the field before halftime.

Little finished with 16 points while Hoy added a season-high 11.

The Jimmies closed the gap somewhat in the second half but were unable to overcome UND's comfortable lead, nor could it counter UND's depth as 11 different Fighting Sioux found the scoresheet.

Little brought the fans to their feet midway through the second half, taking a Youmans feed on the break and powering down a two-handed dunk for a 66-48 UND lead.

Youmans added a fast-break basket on the ensuing possesion to stretch the Sioux lead to 20.

Jordan Olson scored 18 points to lead Jamestown, which also got 13 points from Jake Holen.

UND junior point guard Darius Joseph (Tacoma, Wash.) led all players with seven points while committing just a pair of turnovers.

UND, now 7-3 on the season, closes out the pre-Christmas portion of the schedule on Saturday at Upper Iowa.
