BEMIDJI, Minn.--University of North Dakota junior Ryan Opdahl (Larimore, N.D.) shot an opening round 74 and sits five strokes off the lead heading into the final day of the Bemidji State University Invitational at the Bemidji Town and Country Club.
Opdahl, who opened the fall season with a seventh-place tie last week at the Concordia Invitational, is in an eight-way tie for 15th place after the first day. Winona State's Brady Strangstalien sits atop the individual leaderboard with a 69.
Opdahl and the Sioux shot a team total of 320 and are tied for 15th place with Minnesota, Crookston.
Sophomore Dustin Steiner (So., Fargo, N.D.) was the only other Sioux golfer to crack 80 on the par-72, 6,536-yard course during the first round, carding a 78.
Fellow sophomore Carson Thompson (Devils Lake, N.D.) recorded an 82, while senior Dan Peterson (Moorhead, Minn.) shot an 86.
Sophomore Blake Riewer (Perham, Minn.) rounded out UND's entry with an 89.
