Fighting Sioux sink Jimmies, 92-38

GRAND FORKS, N.D. ? The UND women's basketball team concluded their non-conference games Saturday afternoon with a 92-38 win over Jamestown College. UND improves to 15-0 on the season and remain unbeaten in the series against the Jimmies.

 

The Fighting Sioux dominated scoring in the first four minutes of play, leading the Jimmies 14-4. UND also went on a 14-2 run mid-way through the first half, during which Ashley Langen (Sr., Kennedy, Minn.) scored eight of her game-high 20 points.

 

Twenty-one of UND's first half points were scored on the Jimmies turnovers, with Langen scoring 6 of her 12 first half points during that time. UND had six fast-breaks in the first half of play and led Jamestown by 23 at halftime, 44-21.

 

The Fighting Sioux dominated second half scoring with a seven minute scoring run, overpowering Jamestown 25-3. In the last two minutes of play, UND scored twice while holding Jamestown idle.

 

Langen led the Fighting Sioux with her fourth double-double in her last five games, contributing 20 points and 10 rebounds Saturday afternoon. She also shot 4-4 from the line and is just eight points shy of moving to third place on UND's all-time scoring list. Langen is currently 11 rebounds away from closing in on second place in the school's all-time rebounding list.

 

Sophomore Alys Seay (Grand Forks, N.D.) contributed 10 points to the Fighting Sioux's winning efforts, going 4-5 from the field and 2-2 from the line. Karla Beck (Sr., Munich, N.D.) had five individual steals for the Fighting Sioux, contributing to the team's total of 14 throughout the game. Beck scored nine points, shooting 4-5 from the field.

 

UND out-rebounded the Jimmies 52-24, overshadowing Jamestown 30-13 in the second half alone. The Fighting Sioux have out-rebounded their opponents in each of their 15 games this season, and have now done so in 25 consecutive games.

 

The Fighting Sioux take to the road Thursday, Jan. 10 when St. Cloud State plays host for the first NCC game of the season. Game time is set for 6 p.m.

 

NOTES: The win this afternoon is the ninth time UND has entered NCC play undefeated. The last time was during the 2005-06 season ... Langen made the 700th field goal of her career and now has 705, a total topped only by Jenny Crouse (924) and Sheri Kleinsasser (770 ... UND has shot over 50 percent in the last four games.
