GRAND FORKS, N.D. ? Seven University of North Dakota student-athletes were named to the 2007-08 Academic All-North Central Conference At-Large teams, the NCC office announced today.
Four UND women student-athletes and three UND men student-athletes received the elite honor, which are voted on by the league's sports information directors.
There were a total of 12 honorees on the 2007-08 women's team, which includes athletes from the conference's golf, tennis and swimming & diving teams. The select women's group has a combined grade point average of 3.81.
There were a total of 13 honorees on the 2007-08 men's team, which includes athletes from the conference's golf, tennis, wrestling and swimming & diving teams. The select men's group has a combined grade point average of 3.64.
Headlining the UND selections were women's golfer Amanda Kaler (Jr., Fargo, N.D.) and men's swimmer John Fitzgerald (Jr., Maplewood, Minn.), each of whom received NCC Academic All-North Central Conference At-Large honors for the second time in their UND careers.
Kaler, a political science major, has a 3.77 grade point average, while Fitzgerald, a communications major, has a 3.91 GPA.
UND's other honorees included women's golfers Kelli Dahle (Jr., Bemidji, Minn.) and Kristi Lucken (So., Fosston, Minn.), women's tennis player Jenna Larson (Gr., Bismarck, N.D.), men's swimmer John Degenstein (Jr., The Woodlands, Texas), and men's golfer Jerad Suess (Sr., Williston, N.D.).
Dahle, an education major, has a 3.86 GPA. Lucken, an occupational therapy major, has a 3.91 GPA. Larson, an anatomy major, has a 3.75 GPA. Degenstein, a chemical engineering major, has a 3.72 GPA. Suess, an accounting major, has a 4.00 GPA.
